I don't get it. Assuming Cisco bought Skype tomorrow, what's gonna happen? Will those 300 million users throw their cellphones away? Will they cancel their VoIP service at home?

Telcom providers are one of the largest customer base (other than enterprise) to Cisco today and they hate Skype. Knowing the risk of conflicts of interests and the consequence of pissing off a big segment of its core business...and still Cisco dares to buy Skype, it sends the strongest message so far in the market that PSTN is yesterday and Cisco wants a BIG piece of tomorrow's cloud based (webEx) consumer voip service.

Cisco 买Skype 主要是买信令话语权，Cisco /Tandberg占V2OIP 50% 的市场份额，Polycom/中兴和其他小公司占50%市场份额, 拿下SKYPE有助于Cisco 整合信令网关，下一代的通讯网可以是信令网+媒体网（包括IPTV）
